Tummy Time

One way to better interact with your infant is to have "tummy time" every day for at least 30 minutes. Tummy time allows your infant to develop their fine and gross motor development skills and you can have fun too! One way to engage in tummy time is to lay on floor with your child and be silly with them, talk to them, and play with them. This is a great opportunity to bond and learn more about your infant while they are strengthening their muscles at the same time! My sister-in-law loves doing tummy time with her 6 month old son. She says the best part is being able to see her son get stronger and see him discover the new world around him.

Some babies may resist being placed in a position they are uncomfortable in. If your child is fussy, don't force tummy time. Just try again when your child is content, alert, calm, and willing. You can try different positions such as holding your baby on your chest while you are lying flat, hold your baby on your forearm, or if you are brave enough you can try using an exercise ball. Just place your baby on their tummy on top of the ball, support them with your hand on their back, and gently roll the ball lightly forward and backward.
Have fun, be creative, and enjoy every minute of interacting with your child!

In what ways did you see your child become stronger as you did Tummy Time?
